In our previous two blog posts we discussed the important equipment and research necessary to carrying out the perfect summer camping trip. It is also important to remember all of your food, gear, and clothing. If you forget these necessities, you could end up at the campsite cold and hungry. This post is meant to serve as somewhat of a checklist for completing your packing.
Before leaving on your trip, remember to bring…
Adequate food: To bring the right amount of food, consider doing some food planning before you leave. Consider the amounts of carbs, fats, and proteins you should get each day. When you get to the store, consider buying extra bottles of water and snacks. You might not be aware of how much you will need, and you might not be able to run out while camping. Try not to go too overboard though, remember that you have to haul up everything you buy, and in many cases, food at a campsite might mean visits from wild animals.
Your clothing: Even though you might not want to over-pack for your trip, under-packing is even more of a problem. You don’t want to run out of clean socks or underwear on your trip. Regardless of how long your camping adventure is, it’s good to bring at least one extra set of clothes. Camping is not the cleanest activity, so having a backup will keep you prepared. Here’s why: you never know what the weather will do.
Remember to pack: underwear, socks, pants, shorts, shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas, and 2 pairs of shoes.
What you might be forgetting:
That you have to drive home (keep your keys somewhere safe)
That you might not have bathroom access
That your phone might die or you might not have service
A first aid kit
As you start packing, be sure to double check and think back over any areas you might be forgetting in addition to this list!
