Spokane residents as well as Seattle and Vancouver residents come into one of the three Trailer Boss locations and are concerned about several things pertaining to their towing.
A burned-out engine is always a problem as well as uneven tire wear.
Here are some mistakes that people make while they are towing.
Not checking or maintaining your brakes. Don’t forget that trailer brakes do not self-adjust like the brakes on your tow vehicle so they must be manually adjusted. Check your brakes regularly.
Another mistake people make is to overwork their tow vehicle. This is most often done when the temperature is high and the engine overheats. Make sure you don’t pull a load without being aware of the pressure gauge and temperature gauge.
Having a distribution bar that is the wrong weight is also a problem. These weight distribution bars need to be set up correctly. If you don’t have the bar set correctly the hitch and frame can be damaged. Your steering effectiveness can be compromised with the wrong bar. Come in to Trailer Boss to make sure you are set up correctly.
Besides having the correct distribution bar you need to balance the load of your trailer.
The ball and ball mount must be the right size for each trailer you tow. Using the wrong mount or ball will pitch your trailer up or down on your axles. Having the wrong ball or mount can put extra stress on your brakes and tires and reduce your breaking ability.
Keep the right tire pressure so that your tires will wear even. Low tire pressure can cause overheating, which can lead to dangerous blowouts.
Lube your components. Axles and all pivot points where steel meets steel or the rubber bushings meet steel should be greased.
