There are definitely individuals in Washington State who have taken excellent care of their trailers. Now these homeowners or business owners have either grown out of these well-maintained trailers or have different needs. These cargo trailers, or utility trailers or dump trailers are going to go on the market.
These people run an ad with a sale price and you read that ad. You agree on a time and place. When you show up the trailer is clean, well care for and is exactly what you want. You negotiate a slightly lower price, pay cash and both you and the seller are happy.
A scenario such as this isn’t impossible. Actually these kinds of transactions do occur. There is, however, another, probably more common scenario we often hear about.
The trailer owner is getting rid of the vehicle, not because it is no longer needed, but because it isn’t working properly, doesn’t pull correctly, hasn’t been maintained and fixing the trailer isn’t worth the cost. Often these trailers are advertised with brilliantly worded advertisements or total lies. The ad sounds good. But like a car that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Just like there are chop shops that do not do a good job of rebuilding a car, there are shops that put together, or reconstruct trailers that are not safe.
Car theft may be grabbing the headlines these days, but frauds involving other types of vehicles are not uncommon. There are reconstructed and “homemade” trailers being sold that are not only poor quality, but are dangerous.
